El Paso Electric’s annual shareholders meeting, held in New York last year, will return this month to El Paso where it’s been held for years. Thomas Shockley, El Paso Electric interim chief executive officer, said the location for the May 31 meeting was evaluated soon after he was appointed in late January as interim CEO, and the determination was made to have the meeting in El Paso. ”It’s in El Paso this year because there’s a lot of interesting activities (that occurred) here, and the company is headquartered here,” Shockley said. ”When we have the meeting here, it brings (company board) directors in (from out of town), as does (other) board meetings, and employees who are shareholders have an opportunity to attend the meeting,” Shockley added.

Among the results is data indicating 97% of Americans overestimate the cost of going solar, while nearly 8 out of 10 of those who do not already have solar panels say they would install solar if cost were not a factor. The study was commissioned by Sunrun and conducted online by Harris Interactive(R) in February 2012 among 2,211 U.S. adults, of whom 1,475 were identified as homeowners.

A 42-acre tract of land located about 1/4 mile northeast of the Las Cruces Gate next to main post will be the site where 4.115 MW of single-axis, vertical azimuth-tracking, ground-mounted solar Photo Voltaic panels will be installed.

Garrison Commander Col. Leo Pullar thanked T.A. Ladd and the employees at DPW for the great work that they have done to make this happen.
