How it Works?

Solar pool heating systems will save you lots of money, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Pool heating is a very good solar application.  The systems are simple and relatively inexpensive.  Pool systems usually use simple, low cost, unglazed plastic collectors.  The pool itself is the thermal storage for the system, and the pump you already use for filtering pool water will also circulate water through the solar collectors.  All of this leads to inexpensive systems.

1. Pool pump moves the water to the solar collectors.
2. Cool water enters the solar collector from the bottom.
3. Water is heated as it flows upwards through the collector tubes to the top header pipe.
4. The warm water is then returned to your pool.
5. This process continues until the desired water temperature is reached.

A solar swimming pool heater uses your existing pump to circulate the water in your pool through the system. The process begins with an automatic control that senses any change in sunlight or water temperature and relays this information to a control valve. The control valve then diverts or “channels” the pool water to the collectors, when sufficient energy is available, or bypasses them when heat is not needed.
The water is efficiently heated by the collectors, which can be mounted either on a roof or a ground rack, as it flows through the passageways within the collectors. The water then flows back into your pool through the return lines at your desired temperature.
