How It Works

The system's main three components are:

1. Solar Electric Panels
Solar panels are installed on your roof or adjacent structure. These panels contain photovoltaic cells, which convert sunlight into DC power

2. Inverter
The DC power from the solar panels is sent to an inverter, where it is converted into AC power, or standard electrical current.
The AC power travels from the inverter to the electrical panel, or breaker box. This power is then available to your home.

3. Utility Meter
The utility meter continually measures your electrical supply; when your solar system produces more power than what you consume, the meter literally spins backwards, racking up your credits with the utility company.

The El Paso Electric Company is one of the many Electric companies that have a net metering agreement that allows you to generate power during the day, and any electric power generated that is not used by your home will be credited to your electric bill. This allows you to build up credits during the day and use them when your system is not producing power (i.e. at night). Your electric meter will actually run backwards giving you the credit as a generation point!
