Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has made his way as an engineer on the frontlines of popular culture and driving new ideas and discoveries. As proud engineers working in the field of energy efficiency and possibilities, and as a local company that performs EV charger installations, we thought we’d take a moment and learn about the man behind the car and the story behind the man.

The Beginnings

Elon Musk was born in South Africa to a Canadian mother and a South African father. By the age of 9, he was showing signs of accelerated computer literacy and by age 12 he sold a computer game he had created himself. His school days were not all sunny; little Musk endured heavy doses of bullying, which seemed to have only strengthened his resolve. At the age of 17, Musk left his home with the intent of getting to the United States. He landed in Canada first with his mother’s relatives and studied in Ontario until he was able to move to the US in 1992.

Tesla

In 2004, Musk joined the Tesla team and joined forces with its head engineers to work on what would soon be the Tesla Roadster. The rise of Tesla Motors, however, was not a ride (no pun intended) without obstacles. The company faced some difficult times, coming very close to bankruptcy. Musk himself saved it from bankruptcy by investing almost everything he had.

An electric vehicle uses electricity as its primary source of propulsion. The energy is stored in rechargeable batteries. That’s where the EV charger installation comes in. He is the founder of the Boring Company—an infrastructure and tunnel construction company. As a resident of Los Angeles, Musk has taken on the traffic problem in the city and set out to build underground tunnels to ease the clogged roads.

The field of energy innovation, of course, is vast and being led by many, engineers, scientists, and creative people looking for new ways to improve our lives through renewable energies. Musk is only one example of an extraordinary mind who found his way towards success after overcoming great odds, surpassing hardships, and rising from personal strife, poverty, and challenges. He has emerged the other side as a fascinating figure in pop culture, a prolific inventor and thinker, and someone who is driven and inspired by creation, exploration, and the improvement of lives.
